Refrigerator as Exhibition Space (2025)

Installation / Refrigerator, ice, raw clay, sculptural infrastructure, found objects, styrofoam / 180 x 120 x 120 cm

The installation is based on the question of the function of an artwork and the ways in which it can be directly used within the format of an exhibition. The function that evolves in the context of an exhibition originates from an exploration of the meaning of a work of art’s existence, which I shaped through an analogy with biological reproduction.

Drawing from my previous works (also included in this website), I created two new pieces. Their production incorporates the concept of a genetic code derived from biological reproduction. In this way, the newly created works are shaped by the concepts of the earlier ones, a relationship that becomes visible in the characteristics of their external forms.

Within this biological analogy, I also address the question of preserving existence, exploring exhibition as the essential condition of the contemporary artwork. I therefore arranged the two works so that they mutually support one another in the act of being exhibited.

In doing so, I made the artworks mutually dependent and functional for one another. Within this context, the artwork has a direct use and shifts from being merely an exhibition object to becoming an exhibition tool that enables the display of another work.
