Bad Season

happening / 2024

Once snow-rich winters are vanishing year by year, and even beside snow causing a lot of infrastructural problems, or even survival for some, people of my country are greatly attached to this extincitng phenomena, and today's snow fall is perceived more as a blessing than an everyday event. It's disappearance has caused a shift in its perception, where snow has achieved great artistic and aesthetic functions. Storing snow and collecting it annually means possessing a unique historical material, shifting a value of everyday weather phenomena into an artwork.

The last ongoing project Bad Season concentrates on an annual act of snow appropriation. The location of the act was exclusively my grandmother's garden, where appropriation transformed into a harvest. Through this project I explored the meaning of the garden - on one hand I activated the garden during winter time, when it usually rests and is not actively functional, and on the other I used it not to harvest everyday material (vegetables) but an artistic material (precipitation), needed for my art project.

Upcoming part of this project is a snow-harvest construction - an artwork planned to be finished by the end of this summer is to be installed on the garden and will help me collect the snow.
